Summer Plaid and Polka Dot Picnic Tablescape and Hop

We are in the midst of summer fun here at Corner of Plaid and Paisley.  Checkered tablecloths and polka dots just scream summer dining to me!

I am participating in our Summer Tablescape Blog Hop today!  If you have been following along and came from Linda's wonderful Boho table - Welcome!!  If you are just jumping in here - all of the links to the participating table stylist's blogs are at the end of my post!

You will find me hanging out on the deck most of the summer so it seemed like the perfect place to set my summer table.  I moved all of our deck furniture down to the other end of the deck and set up a folding table.  This table was much narrower than my kitchen table so I had to scale back my plans a bit to get everything to fit on to the width of the table.

The pergola above my deck is always a bit of a challenge taking photos out here since it casts so many shadows - but I could not resist since we had several beautiful days in a row with full sun and very little wind or humidity.  It was gorgeous!!

This is  the table looking the other way - that is my kitchen window - where I stand and wash the dishes!!  It makes washing dishes not so bad.
A Summer would not be complete without eating on a red checked table in my book.
I have had these adorable little plates with ants spelling out the word "eat "  for ages, I thought it was the perfect time for them to make an appearance!  I framed them up with red, polkadot rimmed dinner plates and a plaid salad plate.
Using my checked napkins that matched the table cloth and doubling those up with red polka dot napkins, I cuffed them with some rattan button looped napkin rings.
My little moss bird house and some fun polka dot mushrooms made up a simple centerpiece.
With all of the polka dots around, even on the glasses - I thought a cute little ladybug themed favor would be perfect for each place setting.  I stamped these leaves and ladybugs out with Stampin' Up!'s Hello Lady Bug Stamp set (available by clicking here!!)  Then adorned the bags I filled with ladybug chocolates that I purchased at Home Goods.
Since the Ladybug is known as an omen of good luck and positivity - this should insure a wonderful summer for all.
Now it is time to see what everyone else has done for their tables!  Let's see how many different summer themes  have been created by the other table stylist's participating in today's hop!

In the past few years my interests have grown from fabric to paper and now to dishes too! I just love prints, polkadots, plaids and paisleys- hence the blog name.

  1. Ann, the lake as a backdrop for your table is stunning! I am so glad you chose your deck for your fun table. A red checked tablecloth sings summer for me. Your plate stack is perfect and the little plates with the ants spelling out ‘eat’ is too cute. I love your centerpiece with the polka dot mushrooms which add more whimsy to your table. You always have the most darling favors, the ladybugs make me smile. Wishing you a most wonderful summer!

  2. I love those ladybugs! Such a cute idea to complement the polka dots. Great to find another stamper too!

  4. Ann, this is a perfect summer view and location! What an adorable table setting with the red check cloth and polka dots. Those ant plates are super cute, and the ladybug embellishments with the chocolates a great takeaway. Your pergola is doing its job if the shadows are cast, and certainly doesn't bother me in the photos - it's working! Gorgeous view, and I'd even help with the dishes if I were invited to join you. Please and thank you for such a fun summer setting.

  5. Ann, your summer is a delight for our eyes. The red check cloth and polka dots is lovely and so you. Love those "Eat" plates a perfect addition to your woven placemats and napkin rings. 8. Ann, this is such a cheerful and fun table you have set. I love all the patterns that you chose from the checked tablecloth to the polka dot plates and napkins, and the plaid salads. 9. Ann, Your table is darling! I love the combination of checks and polka dots in the cheery picnic-red. The ‘eat’ plates with ants are adorable, as well as those polka dot capped mushrooms and sweet lady bugs! You always do the cutest Stampin' Up! table favors. Our kitchen sink faces our lake too, but I’m fortunate to have a dish-washing hubby. 😊 As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you, Happy Summer! ♥

  10. Oh, Ann....what a beautiful view! So what if there are a few shadows due to the pergola! I also like that at your picnics you welcome ants and ladybugs. So cute! I also like the traditional red and white checked linens. My very favorite is your centerpiece with the red and white mushrooms and moss. I love it! The woven placemats lend the perfect texture opposite the soft moss. I hope you have a happy summer!

  11. A bright and cheery picnic on the deck in the summer sunshine? It doesn't get much better than this! Such cute plates (even though they have ants, lol), a charming centerpiece and patterns galore are perfect for enjoying your time on the deck. The view is an added bonus.
ps. The pergola's shadows make the sunshine even beighter!

  12. Hi Ann, I so agree.....summer cannot end without eating at a red and white gingham table. I love how you combined so many playful red and white patterns and pieces to make this whimsical tablescape. The red and white mushrooms among the moss is the perfect centerpiece. Perfect when you see little black ants spelling out "eat" on the plates. It is the perfect picnic outdoors and officially announces summer to me. Your deck and the lake as a backdrop is such a lovely setting to enjoy a festive time. And the ladybug chocolate gift bags are such a memorable touch. What a sweet way to start the summer.
