Sailing Away Tablescape

Since boating season is still in full go on our little lake, I was inspired to do another nautical table.
I had passed up this pair of seagulls twice at Hobby Lobby, but the third time I could no longer resist. The fact that they were now 50% off helped too!
I had some scraps left of this fabulous Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up! that I thought would make really cute sail boats.
Then of course I needed something to put a little salt water taffy in for a favor.  So I made these simple little totes and attached an anchor I stamped and cut with the Sailing Home Bundle with some nautical bakers twine.
These are the dishes I keep out all summer, they just go with the kind of rustic lake vibe I try for in our home!
I littered the table with some drift wood pieces, nautical knots and bottles!
I know summer is just sailing by!!
I hope you enjoy these last few weeks of the season!

Come Sail Away Collection on the Corner

Welcome to my first Collection on the Corner!
Today I am featuring nautical themed cards using the Come Sail Away Memories and More pack.
When I work on my cards, I rarely make one at a time.  I always have so many ideas in my head that I tend to be all over the place working on several different cards at once with in the same stamp set or paper series.  So, I have decided to post a small collection of cards using the same the same theme to give you lots of ideas on how to use your Stampin' Up! products.
The Come Sail Away Memories & More Card Pack (you can click this link or find it on page 171 in your catalog) which is a fabulous pack of double sided cards, laser cuts and stickers with patterns and images all made to coordinate with the Come Sail Away Suite. Although you can make many great cards with this pack and some card stock!  I did use some extra's to embellish my cards and several of those things are not from the Come Sail Away Suite.  So take a look and see what you like here!

✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

This first one is my favorite with the ripped edges of the Sahara Sand cardstock that was run through the Corrugated Embossing Folder.
The ships wheel and Congrats is from the Sailing Home Bundle.  I used the Under the Sea Dies for the net looking piece that adds some more texture.

✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

You Made My Day was one of the pre-printed cards in the Memories and More pack.
I cut the actual hexagon shape out of the preprinted card and raised that up with some dimensionals.
I ended up using the Arts and Crafts dies (the largest snap) for the two dark brown round washer type pieces - it was just the right size I was looking for  - then I used a small diameter paper punch to punch the hole in the middle to bring the braided linen through.

✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

I liked the ripped edges so much in the first card - I decided to do it again with this one!
The two printed papers in the background as well as this lighthouse, plus the little compass sticker on the ships wheel are all from the Memories & More Pack.  I used White Stampin' Emboss Powder on the navy classic label for the  Happy Birthday sentiment (from At Home with You - now retired)

✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

The "Ahoy There" spoke to me when I saw it one of the small preprinted cards - so I fussy cut it out and used it as the focal point on this card.
This is on a Black cardstock base, both of the striped papers where in the Memories & More pack. I stamped out the compass base and the two sailboats from the Sailing Home Bundle with black ink. I used a scrap of silver foil paper for the compass needle and an old (retired) black rhinestone. The two little tabs of Flax Ribbon just add a bit of texture to the card.

✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

This last card was the most work but fun work!
I used watercolor paper and an aqua painter to lightly paint my sky and water.
I stamped the birds and light house  from the Sailing Home Bundle- so I did have to put a bit more effort into this one! Two of the background papers are from the Memories & More pack, but the small striped paper on the bottom is from the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.

✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

I hope you got some ideas from my cards.  I still have a lot more of the Memories & More Cards
left from the pack, I barely made a dent in it!!  Don't be afraid to cut them up and use the pieces and parts of each card. It also comes with some beautiful laser cut pieces that I didn't even use yet!
This pack is chalked full of goodies to use as you wish!

So if you liked my first Collection on the Corner - come on back - I will be doing more collections using different products in this format in the future.

Nautical Tablescape

Summer is in full swing here at our little lake.  Boating, water skiing, fishing, and pontooning are a big part of our social life, so this nautical themed table is appropriate for a little gathering before going out on the lake.
Although, because there is no horse power limit on the boat motors, we see very few sail boats on our lake.  Occasionally in the middle of the week when it is real quiet, you will see someone out sailing.
I filled my sailboat with some different varieties of hydrangeas.
I am not much of a gardener!  My hydrangeas just don't look as big and gorgeous as everyone else out there in blog land!  I just live vicariously through the ladies who post on Floral Fridays!
My husband will not allow me to decorate our lake house with any "sea" items.
So no mermaids, no seahorses, no shells, no sand dollars, no lobsters - you get the idea!!
Anchors are allowed!  Even though these are not the type of anchors we use -the nice guy that he is-  let this slide.
I chose these blue dyed napkins and a knotted rope napkin ring to top of the dish stack.
This sailboat is from Pier 1 Imports, it is sold as a fruit basket.  I picked it up as soon as they marked it down.
A few nautical accents scattered about the blue striped table cloth join the sailboat.  These cute little buoy candles were left over way past summer at Joann Fabrics last year so I got them for mere pennies.
I am a fair skinned, freckled red head.  For years I had one wish - that was to get my shins tan. Well, I can tell you, my wish came true!  My shins are finally tan!
When it gets up in the 90's - you know were to find me-
I will be out by the lake with at least my toes in the water or floating on some sort of watercraft.
I hope you stay cool this summer!

Thanks for stopping by!
Ann

Before and After of our Lake House Stairs and Landing

We recently finished the final touches on the renovation of our lake house stairs, so I wanted to share with you the dramatic before and afters!!

For those who had not heard the back story of the Fixer Upper we bought - here is a photo and a link to the original post about our fixer upper.

As you can imagine, a house that was this ugly on the outside- wasn't too pretty on the inside! Here are some before photos of the stairs/landing area. It is pretty small, so I am not even sure if I can call it a foyer.
I was not kidding!  This house was kind of an early 70's disaster.
Don't ya just love the fire extinguisher as an accent to the green carpet?! And we never could figure out way the railing only went half way down the steps!! Plus the railing across the top along the hall way was so low - it only came up to my thigh.  So I figured anything we put in would be better than what was there.
One of the very first things we did was to rip off the carpet on these steps to see what we were dealing with underneath.
Which ended up being - not much!  Just cheep wood steps that were not of the quality that you could finish them as nice hardwood steps. You can also see how dark it was in this little foyer/stair well.  There was a lot of dark wallpaper to go with that green carpet.
We found some funky colors and things under the wallpaper!  Some water damage to to the corner of the ceiling.  So many repairs had to be done before the new could go up.
We striped all the wood work and primed the stairs, wood work and the walls.
Then we painted the outside of each step blue - since we were putting down a runner - we figured there was no sense in painting the middle of the step!
Next was the exciting part - the new railing was going in!

We knew we wanted rope incorporated in the railing to give it a nautical look, but we wanted a strong secure hand railing. I, also, wanted some sleek metal connectors vs. knotting the rope at the ends because we have two dogs and a lot of dog hair!  I just imagined the dog hair clinging to some knots like it clings to the felt pads on the bottom of our chairs - and I did not want that!
This was the least fuzzy jute rope I could find - again, looking for something that dog hair would not stick to.  These are the connectors we ended up going with.  At the top is just a hook and eye.
And what I thought was going to be a snap hook at the bottom, but when they came there were no actual snaps.  But it works fine - the ropes are taught enough that they won't come unhooked.
I am thrilled with how the railing came out!

We hung our new light fixture- it was one of the first things we bought just after we purchased the house - so it was nice to get that up after it had been in a box in the garage for at least a year and a half!  But then came the most time consuming part - the board and batten.
God Bless my husband!!!  This was not easy.  We had a lot of windows and doors to configure in this process.  Then of course - none of the walls were actually straight.
We did a lot of caulk, filling the gaps and a lot of sanding and several coats of paint.
Then the floor in the landing was laid- it matches the hardwood we laid on first level.
We installed the carpet runner and it was all starting to come together!
My girlfriend, Renee, was keeping a look out for an oar at garage sales for me - she found this one for $8 - it was perfect for the lower hand railing.
Lastly, we painted the inside of the two doors - one is our front door and the other leads to the garage.

All in all - this was a ton of work and we did it in steps over about 6 months time, but well worth it!
I love our end result.

Now it is on to another project!!

Thanks for stopping by,
Ann

Summer Fun at the Lake

Even though the calendar doesn't say so, summer is upon us here at the Lake.
I wanted to set this up down by the water but there was too much wind today.
We can see the beach from our property across one section of our little the lake.  If the wind is blowing in the right direction we can hear happy beach noises, laughter, and screams of delight from the little ones as the play in the water.
I thought these chargers look like waves in the water. Seeing as we are a small inland lake - we don't get big waves until one of the larger ski boats go by.
The plastic tumblers have come out of storage and are our go to cups in the summer time.
I could not find a cute napkin ring - so I cut some beach balls out on my Silhouette and attached them to some simple white rings I had.
These girls cracked me up when I saw them at HomeGoods  several months ago.  Even though I had several other things I was purchasing - I just could not leave these two girls in the store - they had to come home with me!
This one reminds me of my oldest sister, Barb!
This one is my other sister, Carol!
(I was the baby of the family)
We used to go to Huntington Beach on Lake Erie every summer when we were kids. While our bathing suits were not quite this retro - they were closer to this then what I see at the beach now!!!
I am dating myself when I say we used to wear swim caps!?!? Anyone remember those?  I was always wishing for one with a flower on the side!

I hope your summer is starting off with some fun!!
Thanks for stopping by,
Ann
