I am so excited about the new Crafting with You Bundle by Stampin' Up! that I am sharing the first two cards I have completed with this set.  I am in love with this little paper trimmer die!!

I made some cards to thank my customers with this new set that comes out May 2nd.  This set can be found on Page 91 of the new catalog.

Follow Your Art

Welcome to the 3rd addition of Collections at the Corner, featuring the It Starts with Art Bundle.
I have the step by step recipes for two of the four cards I made with this bundle. I stayed in a soft color pallet for these 4 cards, there are some vibrant colors in the Designer Series Paper as well.
Chances are if you are a creative person, you have some creative friends.  This is the perfect set to make cards and favors for those crafty acquaintances!  Whether they quilt, sew, craft, paint, draw or handy with the glue gun - this set has you covered.

✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂

You Make Everything Sparkle starts with an A2 Granite Grey Card base.
  • a layer of Calypso Coral 4" X 5 1/4"
  •  layer of the scissor DSP 3 3/4" X 5"
  • Calypso Coral 3"X 4"- run it through the Button Button Embossing folder and adhere it at an angle.
  • Using the 2 3/4" long Stitch Rectangle Die cut with Silver Foil cardstock
  • Whisper White  Stitched Rectangle approx 2 5/16" with sentiment stamped in Granite Grey
  • Cut a variety of buttons with the Arts & Crafts Dies, adhere with dimensionals
  • add a bakers twine bow
  • fill your spritzer with just a few drops of Champagne Glimmer Mist and add water until your spritzer is about half full and shake it well.  Place your card in an open box and give it a light mist of sparkle.  Not too much or your sentiment may smear.  You can't see this step real well in this photo - but it looks great with just a nice shimmer all over the whole card.
  • add a few rhinestones

Let's Stay Up Late and Craft!

  • Starts with an A2 base using Coastal Cabana cardstock
  • layer with Follow Your Art DSP 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Using the Arts & Craft dies, cut 3 coordinating colors of the eyelet trim, a paper clip and  a flower button
  • cut the patterned coral Subtle DSP using the  2 1/4" x  3 3/4" Stitched rectangle die, use liquid glue to adhere the three strips of cardstock eyelet  trim to the bottom of the rectangle and the paper clip to the top and adhere to your layered card base.
  • Stamp two bottles and two ribbon spools, cut with coordinating dies, cut the heart part of the ribbon off of the spools and color with Stampin Blends.
  • from Coastal Cabana cardstock, stamp the square with Swirly Fames square in Coastal Cabana ink, stamp sentiment in black and cut using the stitched square.
  • adhere the two colored ribbon spools stacking them, adhere sentiment square
  • using dimensionals adhere the flower button and your two bottles.
  • from the Follow Your Heart Embellishment Kit - glue a bigger heart on, use dimensionals to attach the smaller heart.  Tie a bow from the twine and attach with either glue or a glue dot on to the flower button.

Do Something Creative Every Day is actually a sentiment from the Crafting Forever set.

I made this card and the quilt card below for Blooming Blocks Quilt Fabric,  an online quilt shop.

My friend, Colleen who owns Blooming Blocks, will be sending these two cards out to the next two lucky winners in her monthly drawings.  So if you quilt or know someone who does - check out her website - she runs frequent sales and has very reasonable shipping rates!! I put a link in for her website.

Follow Your Art Pieced Quilt

This was pieced together using 2 different sizes of the Stitched Rectangles with 4 different patterns.  It was fun to do the layout, just playing with the pieces on a base of Whisper White that was then cut to size.  This is a great way to use small scraps up!

I hope you enjoyed today's collection!

Crafternoon

Our Crafternoon Party was a huge success!!

We held our first fund raiser for the Miss Akron Canton Scholarship Program.
What happens when you put 35 Ladies in a room together to craft?
A lot of Fun and Creativity!!
Each of the attendees received a Swag Bag with the main components of the projects and a few extras thrown in!
This mother and daughter team got right to work creating some personalized mugs.
The ladies were provided with all of the supplies and a craft coach for 4 different projects.
(Yep- that is me showing some tips on the canvas project!)

We tried to choose projects that could be done by those that had little to no skills but that could also be expanded to include those who had a great deal of crafting prowess.

Of course - we had food too!
We served a light breakfast, lunch and a dessert bar.
We were also thrilled to have Heather Wells, Miss Ohio 2014 as a special guest.  Heather gave an inspiring testimonial  about what the Miss Ohio/Miss America program is all about  and how it has made her the strong, confident, professional woman she is today. ( Please see my previous post Celebrating Miss America to see why I chose to get involved with this program)
We should all look so good crafting!!
Good conversation, a lot of laughing, sharing and inspiration seemed to be the glue that made this day work!
We made a beaded bracelet with a molded metal charm,
Personalized mugs as seen on Pinterest!
Covered clipboards and matching note holders.
and an art canvas project.
There were some who never crafted much before that day, and some who were very talented.
Many of the ladies made gifts for friends and daughters.
Some where just thrilled at the artwork they created and didn't know they had it in them!!
A good time was had by all! and in doing so- we raised about $1,000 for college scholarships for some hard working young women in the area.  We received  many requests to do another Crafternoon, so I am happy to say we will start planning another one for end of winter or early spring.
So as the swag bags said - It's a Good Day to be Creative!

Craft Room Tour

Yesterday I shared all of my Dish storage and just showed a bit of my Craft Room - but I wanted to share more details of my Craft Room.

This is a corner of our Basement.  My husband built a wall sectioning off approximately a third of our basement for storage and the other two thirds is additional family living space with a pool table, poker table and big screen TV -our boys used it quite a bit with their friends when they were younger.

So my room is on the storage side of the wall.  I took the front part of the storage area and sectioned it off as my space with a wall of white book shelves.  And since my husband had put in two doors to the storage side of the basement - my "room" has its own door.

This room has been evolving over a number of years.  I keep adding and tweaking things.  The book shelves and the sewing counter are the two original things I started with when making my creative space.
The counter is two remnant pieces we picked up cheap at one of the big box home improvement places.  We used some short book shelves underneath the counter - he anchored the back of the counter and drilled some holes in the top to make way for the electrical cords for my sewing machines.

We never drywalled this side of the basement - so I had to find a way to work with the cinder block walls and the unfinished back side of the dividing wall.   I painted the back wall a bright green hoping no one would notice it was just cinder block.  I don't really want to pound a nail into the cinder block -so I have tried to find creative ways to hang things up on the walls.  I found those two green chairs on clearance at Walmart - they were supposed to be for Back to School/College decor - apparently no one wanted the bright green because I got them dirt cheap and they are very comfortable.
A couple years ago we painted the cement floor with a dark charcoal color and put down an area rug.  The best thing was when my husband installed some track lighting - it replaced an ugly old fluorescent light - this gave it much more of a studio type look.  I suddenly didn't mind the rafters and air ducts so much - that lead me to using more galvanized storage items, including this old metal tackle box I filled with some of my favorite embellishments.

I painted the back side of the unfinished walls and studs white and attached some metal grid panels.  I used to use these wire grid panels as my craft show display years ago - so I was happy to find a new use for them since I haven't done any craft shows in about 10 years!  I found some scrap paper racks that would fit on my metal grids in a store supply catalog - this paper rack cost me less than $100.  The shelf underneath it was a left over from one of the kids rooms.  It works great to store punches, ink pads, envelopes, and pads of paper.

Last year I went out and bought a new work table from Ikea.  I have to say that this was not the table I had planned on buying.  When my daughter and I had taken a day off work and drove all the way to Pittsburgh to get the table I had been dreaming about - Ikea was out of stock on the one I wanted.  My daughter can attest to the fact that I was just about in tears when I found out I wasn't coming home with the table I had been drooling over in the catalog for the last six months!  My daughter convinced me that the narrower table would work - and of course she was right!
The newest addition is my wrapping station.
I bought the ribbon racks from Michaels with a gift card my husband gave me for my birthday.  They were buy one get one free - so of course I got two!  But  I was bummed when  I got home they did not fit between the studs.  So I hauled down two more of the wire grids I had in my garage and figured out a way to rig the ribbon holders to the wire grids - and they worked beautifully!!  I was able to use the hooks from the system to hang some old tension rods I had left over from a room redo to hang up my rolls of paper.  I recycled a few tin cans and some buckets I used from a tables cape - and never spent a penny putting this all together!!!
I recently moved some of my Tablescaping items down to my room, but I wanted to keep them organized.  I decided to cover some cardboard boxes I picked up at the store and covered them with scrapbook paper and made some nice big labels so I can easily find what I need.
The Embroidery Floss Cabinet is a favorite of mine - I bought it almost 20 years ago from a fellow crafter who owned a smocking business.  I keep my little embellishments in it  - now all organized by color.
My neighbors think I am crazy because I am always out spray painting something! I painted my spool racks, the frame of my bulletin board, some quirky cut outs a friend made for me, and even the legs to my ironing board!
All these little things some how make me love the space even more.
If you can't find me - I am probably in my Craft Room with my music playing!
