A Bit of Scare in that Scarecrow - Halloween Table

Welcome to my Halloween Tablescape; be warned, I am not sure my scarecrows are scary enough to keep the crows from bothering us.

This is my contribution to our wonderful group of tablesylists' Halloween Tablescape Hop.

I would like to thank Rita from Panoply for doing such a wonderful job leading this group.  Her incredible organizational skills keep us in line and make this hop possible.  All of the links to the 12 bloggers participating will be at the end of my post!  So light your pumpkin spice candle, grab your favorite beverage, and indulge yourself in some Halloween fun.

Ohio is corn country!  And besides lots of fresh corn on the cob, the best thing about living in corn country are all of the corn mazes in the fall.
Pumpkin patches, farm markets, corn stalks, and hay bales are fall staples around here.
My table reflects what you might see in the fields.

Now this scarecrow might be a little too cute to scare away the pesky birds.
I thought this scarecrow is a little scarier-looking!  But he doesn't seem to be doing the job either!
As a kid, we grew corn in our small garden, and we made scarecrows to keep the birds from bothering our crops.  I was never too sure how effective they were back then either!
These three pieces were purchased on separate trips to different HomeGoods or TJ Maxx stores.
I placed them on a black footed charcuterie board I already had and added some mini hay bales, corn stalks, and mini pumpkins to make them feel at home.
These wood beaded napkin rings look like dried-out corn cobs to me.

I chose a simple black smoky wine glass to finish out the place setting.
I have used these pumpkin plates several times, and this time of year, if they are not on the table, they are on my hutch.

Just about everything is from my stash except for the colorful tablecloth by Cupcakes and Cashmere, another HomeGoods purchase.

Now that we have gone on a little field trip to the local farm, it is time to move on to see what the other creative tablescapers have in store for you! Here are the links to all of the other participants' posts:

I wanted to point out the three square plates on my hutch because they were gifted to me by a dear friend whom we lost this past week, Mary from Home Is Where the Boat Is.   We are feeling her loss greatly in our little hop family.  Mary was such a wonderful, creative, encouraging, and caring person.  She touched so many people's lives with her blogging talents.   My prayers go out to her family and friends.

I hope you enjoyed this post and were able to visit the other tables as well.

Have a fun Halloween and enjoy some of the fall favorites that go along with this season!

In the past few years my interests have grown from fabric to paper and now to dishes too! I just love prints, polkadots, plaids and paisleys- hence the blog name.

  1. Ann, such a lovely scarecrow table. They are so cute and those hay bales are so fun. You really brought the farm to all of us. The plates are so fun with your napkins and beaded napkin rings that look like corn cob.🌽 love seeing your pretty hutch in the background all decked out for fall. The colorful tablecloth frames your farm vignette perfectly. A pleasure hopping along with you,πŸ‚

  3. The hardest part of a table setting for me is the centerpiece. I am always confounded as to what to do. You really nailed it here! Your diners are going to be absolutely delighted looking at every one of the little details. I also love your wonderful orange dinner plates, and those fabulous pumpkin plates. It amazes me, in looking at all of the tables today, that there are so many different styles of dinnerware for Halloween. I think there’s more for Halloween than for Christmas.

  4. Ann, you are so sweet to mention our Mary and her generosity...I believe we have all been a part of it, in some way, which makes each of us feel the pain of her loss. We will miss not commenting on her wonderful inspirational table contributions, and not seeing photos of her beautiful fur babies, and her gardening and floral tips. We all feel the pain. BUT we have the memories...and each time we look at something she said or remember a tip she gave or a recipe she made...Mary will be with us....and then we can smile and be thankful that we were once a part of her world.
Your table is adorable Ann and I have those little pumpkin plates too and my Bible Study ladies get to see them every Friday in October and November as I serve our desserts on them. However, I love your happy scarecrows and I am sorry to tell you this, but Ann...they are NOT scaring those crows away.πŸ₯° I always enjoy looking at your Hutch and the decor you have chosen for the hop. You have a way of making it look new and different each time I see it. It is always fun hopping with you and I hope your October is filled with laughter and Autumn leaves.Hugs and Blessings Always

  5. I am so sad about Mary, too, but I felt awkward posting about her given the theme of my table this year.

I love the scarecrows, and the little pumpkin plates are perfect. I really like the orange tones on your table mixed with the straw. I can never find anything nice at Homegoods. It seems like every time I go everything has been picked over, and I get frustrated because I see so many cute things from there on blogs! Like on THIS post!

    Happy October and Halloween!

  6. What a great idea for a tablescape, Ann, and the three scarecrow pieces are charming. I bet the crows like the scarecrows just as much. Adding the mini hay bales was a great touch and makes you think of a barn or field with stacks of hay piled up . For me, I loved the colorful placemats with all the different patterns reflecting the colors of Halloween. Wishing you a wonderful Halloween.

  7. Ann, this is the cutest table! What a clever idea to use scarecrows and hay stacks as your centerpiece. So creative, my friend! I love how you've used layers of linens to created a grid. All looks so inviting. Happy Halloween!

  8. How adorable is your centerpiece of scarecrow and hay bales with crows?! I especially love the stack of hay with the crows, and it all looks perfect on your charcuterie board! And that tablecloth - why didnt I see that?! Its is too cute! You're spot on with those napkin rings looking like dried corn cows. This table would be a perfect one for littles and those who dont gravitate toward the scary. I love it. Thise little pumpkin plates are extremely versatile for this season. And I love that Mary sent you those three plates in the hutch. I can fondly remember her using them. She was so generous in sharing her inventory and gifting items, especially during Halloween, her favorite time of year. She will most certainly be in our hearts every time we set a table. Thank you for sharing, Ann, and participating today.
