Oh, Come All Ye Plaid Lovers - a Christmas Tablescape

Christmas is just around the corner.  I have hauled out some of my favorite plaids to set the table.

We are celebrating with our Christmas Tablescape Hop!  Once again, Rita from Panoply has gathered a special group of table stylists together to share our enthusiasm for a pretty holiday table with all of you.

All the links to the other blogs will be listed at the end of this post.  So grab a cup of hot cocoa, kick back, and enjoy some Christmas cheer.

Christmas plaids are always a favorite of mine. You can tell what type of pattern you like by the wrapping paper you pick out!  I always gravitate toward plaids.

I feel comfort with plaids. They remind me of a warm night by a fire, and what better way to spend a Christmas evening after a nice dinner?

My deer is feeling comfortable, too!  He nestled down right in the middle of the table!
I am beginning to get quite a collection of deer, but when I saw this one, I could not resist.  He went home with me, and another one went home with my best shopping buddy.  We had a good day on our shopping trip to Ragon House in Bolivar, Ohio.

Ragon House is a wholesale supplier to many boutique stores and other retailers, such as Wayfair.  However, they open up to the public twice a year for some big sales!!  People wait in line to get in because they have some beautiful items for quite a bit less than what you would pay in the store.

I purchased these battery-operated candles there, as well as the evergreen candle ring.
The plaid dishes and mugs are old favorites of mine from Pier 1 Imports that I have had for years.

The berry stem salad plates where a clearance deal at the end of last year from Hobby Lobby at 75% off.
I chose gold chargers, flatware, and napkin rings since the plates and mugs have a thin gold rim.

The gold-rimmed stemware seemed equally fitting.

The tablecloth is Ralph Lauren, purchased from T.J. Maxx two years ago.  I used it in my Nutcracker Christmas table in 2023.

The gold flatware was bought when I first started to host the extended family for Christmas.  It was purchased at least 20 years ago at Value City when they had department stores, they have long since closed.
I found the plaid napkins at Hobby Lobby this year.  I like how all of this was purchased over several years, yet it all stays relevant.
I was tempted to put a big plaid bow around his neck, but I was sure I had gone far enough with the plaids already!
My hutch received a holiday update as well.  I like choosing items that coordinate with my table. Here is a closer look at all the plaid on the hutch.
Now that you have had your fill of all things plaid, it is time for me to share all the links to the other participating blogs.  Please check out their Christmas tables!  It is always fun to see what everyone has created!

In the past few years my interests have grown from fabric to paper and now to dishes too! I just love prints, polkadots, plaids and paisleys- hence the blog name.

  1. Can one EVER go too far with plaids?? I suppose so, but this tablescape had me at the title, and you did it oh, so well, Ann! Ragon House and a best shopping buddy sounds like a lethal yet winning combination! Oh my, I may have to.look that one up and plan a road trip with my bff & shopping partner! The deer is so handsome! He sits quite comfortably among all the plaids. The RL tablecloth is his perfect perch. The gold rim details are well thought and well placed. You are a queen when it comes to finding beautiful things and at beautiful price points. The salads are just one example. Your hutch makes the perfect backdrop in how you've styled it for this tablescape and this holiday season.
Ann, thank you so much for joining the blog hop and showcasing all your talent. Merry December!

  10. I like your take on plaid as the colors are lighter. I love plaid, especially during Christmas. Your deer and candles coordinate with the lighter greens so well. I also love the berry plates! They look like they were made to go with the plaid plates underneath them. Merry Christmas!

  11. Ann, you captured my heart with all of the plaid in your gorgeous tablescape. I love your tablescape since the color emphasizes more of the little green in the plaid than the red or it is a variation of the bold and bright tartans. (I love them too, but this surely allows for a different option.) It is particularly noticeable with your choice of sage green deer as your centerpiece. It even plays up more of the greenery. It even allows your plate stack of another plaid to really pop. I love how you coordinated all of the plaid on the table to that in your hutch. So much charm!!!! A great collection of lovely plaid. A plaid-lovers dream. Happy Holidays Ann.

  12. Ann, I'm right there with you! My plaid loving heart loves using red plaid and tartan during the holidays, though truth be told, I love using it all year. Your deer looks right at home among the plaids and greens. Your hutch filled with more plaid and Santa figures really pleases the eye. It makes the perfect backdrop for this table. Merry Christmas, my friend!

  13. Ann, your mix of plaids is lovely! Their differences in color intensity and the varying amounts of white in each makes the mix especially impactful. I also love all the festive details -- the berry design on the plates, the gold flatware, the red edging on the napkins, and the evergreens beneath the plates. I like that your hutch resonates with the table. Happy Holidays!

  14. Oh Ann, I love your merry mix of plaid patterns and textures! The title of your post is perfect and made me laugh. The plate stack is wonderful with the plaid plates layered on your charger plates and the cedar placemats, topped by your wonderful find of berry plates. I love the tablecloth and it is a great backdrop for the plate stack. That mossy deer is gorgeous and I love the green ribbon you added, and the candles are lovely. Your hutch is the perfect complement to your table. It was wonderful hopping with you and wishing you a joyful holiday season!

  15. Too much plaid, just the tablecloth or cups plaid would have been enough. This is hard on the eyes and probably creates confusion in elders and small children.

  16. Oooh Ann! I love all your plaids! And your lovely salad plates too – a perfect combination! I can see why your sweet deer loves it. Haha – I’m sure he would have been proud of a big plaid bow, but this one is so understated. The gold is a beautiful accent to your dishes – you have a lovely style sense. It’s a pleasure to study your fun and elegant table! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
