St. Patrick's Day Tablescape -13th Edition of the Keeper of the Shamrock Cloth

I am so excited to share this special post with you today!!  I am the lucky 13th Keeper of the Traveling Shamrock Cloth and so thrilled to be a part of this tradition!!
I hopping with my fellow table enthusiasts today in the Lucky Charms Blog Hop, which was organized by the wonderful Debbee of Debbee's Buzz!

Much Thanks to Debbee because she was also the tablescaper that passed the traveling shamrock tablecloth to me.
Here is a little history of the Keepers of the Shamrock Traveling Cloth that was started by Marigene of Middle of Nowhere when she used this beautiful vintage table topper in 2010. She passed it on to Kathleen of Kathleen Cuisine some time in  2011 with the stipulation that she use it and then pass it along to another tablescaper.  Kathleen used it in 2012 and then passed it to Rett of Gazebo house for 2013.  Mary from Home is Where the Boat, featured the cloth in 2014.
From Mary the cloth along with a new companion that Mary added - the little leprechaun, traveled to Sarah from Hyacinths for the Soul in 2015.   Sarah then send it on to Kitty from Kitty's Kozy Kitchen for 2016.  Next up was Debbie of Mountain Breaths in 2017 and on to Jenna and she featured it on her blog, Painted Apron in 2018.
Jenna passed the table topper on to Pam from Everyday Living in 2019.  Pam did her part beautifully and sent the cloth on to Rita from Panoply for 2020.  Then the cloth took a trip out to sunny California to see Linda at her Life and Linda blog in 2021.  Linda passed the shamrock cloth onto Debbee of Debbee's Buzz where it made it's 12th appearance!!

and now-  it is my turn!!  Lucky 13!!
I wanted this beautiful table topper with the shamrock border and Celtic knot corners to be the star of the show - so I set very simple place settings of white dinner plates and cabbage salad plates.
I guess you could call these vintage pieces - even the napkins - they have all been around for quite some time now. But these pieces are pretty timeless, I have used them over and over through the years.

I used simple wood flatware from Ikea and plain wood napkin rings that were my mother's - then tucked a tuft of shamrocks in next to each of the napkins.  I purchased all of the shamrock greenery years ago and I am so happy I went overboard and bought quite a bit of it at the time because I have used it over and over again - and I have never seen anything like it since then.
My new additions this year are the two wood shamrocks with the Celtic designs - a fun find at Marshalls about a month ago.  A true Irish shamrock only has three leaves - that dates back to when Saint Patrick used to explain the Trinity using the three leaved plant as a visual aid as he traveled the country teaching Christianity.
The setting of this table just happened to coincide with a trip to Columbus, Ohio (a big city !!- since I live in the middle of nowhere!) to spend the day with my kids - I was thrilled to stop at a Trader Jo's.  Those of you who have one close by - you are so lucky!!  I picked up some shamrock hydrangeas, white tulips and green button mums for my centerpiece for less than I would pay for a small, ugly bouquet at our local grocery store that dies two days later!
There is just something special about fresh flowers greeting you at the table, especially this time of year when we have so many gloomy days.  Although - if you peak out my deck door you can see the sun was actually shining when I took this pictures!!
Here is a little look at my sideboard all decorated for St. Patrick's Day as well.  I have acquired a lot of these items as gifts over the years because my birthday is on St. Patrick's Day!!!  Just another reason for celebrating - usually with a green beer and a few friends!
Now it is on to see what everyone else has done for the occasion!
If you are following along - next up is  Barbara from Mantle and Table

In the past few years my interests have grown from fabric to paper and now to dishes too! I just love prints, polkadots, plaids and paisleys- hence the blog name.

  1. That is quite the traveling tablecloth story Ann! I enjoyed hearing about it's travels. I am not too far from Columbus, Ohio myself! How exciting to find someone close. I love your potting shed sign, and happy early birthday! I hope you enjoy your day!

  2. Ann, You did the shamrock table topper proud as 'Keeper of the Cloth' in its ‘lucky 13th’ appearance! I love the wood elements you added to your table to mix the pretty greens of the plates, napkins and placemats. And what a lucky find your wood shamrocks with the Celtic designs were. I love your pretty centerpiece and mix of flowers too with tulips, hydrangeas and mums. The nearest Trader Joe’s to me is an hour away so I have to agree that those who have one close by are lucky indeed. Last but not least, I adore your Potting Shed sign! I happen to know a Potting Shed that needs one. 😊 As always it's a treat to join you at the table and hop with you! Erin go Bragh ☘️💚

  3. Ann, I'm smiling seeing your beautiful presentation using the Traveling Shamrock Cloth. It's such a fun tradition! Thank you for keeping it going. Amazing that it is on its 13th trip. We should track it on a map. Wouldn't that be fun?
I love the way you used it in the center of your table. It's perfect with each of your "vintage" details. Most of my tabletop collection is now "vintage", having seen many a tablescapes through the years. Like old friends, it's always a joy to dine with them!
Your flowers are gorgeous. Gotta love Trader Joe's! We can always depend on TJ's for affordable, beautiful, fresh blooms. Happy early birthday!

  4. Oh Ann, I'm so excited you are this year's Keeper of the Cloth! Your tablescape is beautiful and the cloth looks wonderful with that adorable centerpiece of green hydrangeas, white tulips and shamrocks! I love love the flower arrangement and the shamrock wreath around your pretty white pitcher. So smart to elevate it on a stand and flank it with those cute Celtic shamrocks! I like the way you placed more clover at each place, and the cabbage plates are timeless. The potting shed vignette on your sideboard is extra fun! I love it all, and Happy Birthday to you!

  8. Ann, I was thrilled to see you would be hosting as the keeper of the traveling cloth this year! I purposely wanted it to go across the country when I sent it to Linda, and now it's bounced back to the Eastern US like a ping pong ball! Where will it go next?!
Your table is stunning! I love the cheerful hues of the greens, and those flowers, wow! You were smart to buy the shamrock faux florals too. Oh, and your shamrock finds from Marshall's are lovely with their Celtic symbols.
Very happy to be in your company on this St Patrick's Day event. ☘️

  10. Number 13 must be lucky number Ann, because you traveling cloth tablescape knocked it over the rainbow! You did a beautiful job styling the table and centerpiece. LOVE the floral centerpiece with all the different shades and textures of green in the white pitcher. The wooden clovers flanking it were fabulous finds! Your choices of plates, flatware and glasses, placemats and napkins are perfect companions to the Irish cloth. I especially like the clover cluster napkin rings. I certainly made the right decision passing the cloth and tradition on to you!
