Summer Tablescape- Yellow and Blue Alfresco Setting

Welcome to my upper deck!  We are dining alfresco with this summer table!

I don't usually do tables outside but I decided to do something a little out of the box for this Summer Blog Hop and set my table up on our deck.  I am joining our wonderful group of Table enthusiasts led by Rita, from Panoply, for a fabulous look at summer tables.

The reason why I don't do many tables outside is that we live on a hill leading down to a lake and it is nearly impossible to set up a table in the yard unless we are right down on top of the water.  The other reason is that we have a pergola over our middle deck that casts shadows all over any table I have tried to do out there.  The bottom deck is completely covered and it is too dark down there - and the top deck is only 4 ft wide. -so this makes outdoor tables a bit of a challenge.  I threw in the towel and just went with the shadows from the pergola on the middle deck this time.

We had a beautiful sunny day with blue skies and very little wind  - which made for the perfect day to set a cheerful table with bright summer colors of blue and yellow.  Even with the shadows from above you can't miss this fun striped table cloth with it's giant lemon motif.

I turned the bright yellow placemats from their traditional width placement to have them hang over the side of the table since my table just to add some interest.  I chose a simple placesetting of blue dinner plates with a patterned edge and two different patterned yellow salad plates - only because I couldn't make up my mind which I liked better!!

I topped the plates with my favorite napkins - paisley!!!  and a denim blue, too!!  If you know me you know that I like denim.  I have to take a friend with me when I go clothes shopping just so I don't come home with another denim shirt.  I always feel my most creative wearing a denim shirt - it is my uniform of choice.

The lemon napkin rings were a gift from my daughter for my birthday this year.
They were from Kirklands, along with the blue seagrass tumblers that I purchased there two years ago.
(now they offer them in black - no longer navy)

I filled a little lantern candle holder with some faux ranunculus and greenery for my centerpiece and surrounded it with my favorite summer pitcher and some fun Rae Dunn water bottles.

Our lake is nice and quiet during the week and this is early in the season, so it was a very calm and quiet day on the lake, the way I like it!!  The weekends get a little crazy sometimes - but for the most part we have a little slice of heaven on Earth here!

Now it is on to see what everyone else has in store for some summer fun!

In the past few years my interests have grown from fabric to paper and now to dishes too! I just love prints, polkadots, plaids and paisleys- hence the blog name.

  1. Good Morning Ann, I’m so glad you set a table with your beautiful lake and blue waterviews! What a gorgeous pairing of Mother Nature’s blue skies and water and the sunny yellows and blues of your tablescape. Lemons are the perfect choice and pairing in your tablecloth and napkin rings and I love the checked plates with the textured dinner plates. Who wouldn’t want to sit at your table and ‘just chill’? 😊 I prefer when our lake is quiet and peaceful too. As always it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Happy Summer. ♥

  4. Ann, that is so funny about you needing to take someone shopping with you so you don't buy another denim shirt. I understand what it is like to have a "uniform" that you are comfortable wearing every day! I love having my aprons on no matter if I am crafting or cooking or cleaning, it protects my clothes! (I can be messy!) Now, how wonderful that you took the opportunity to set your table with the view of the lake, it is SO very lovely! I admit I love paisley too! The blue and yellow are so bright and pretty for summertime!

  5. Ann, your view is so fabulous and I can see why you broke down and set a gorgeous table on your deck. I am loving the blue and yellow together. So fresh and inviting. How wonderful to invite your signature plaid and paisley. The lemon napkin rings are darling. Kudos for setting a lovely summer tablescape with a fantastic view.

  6. Hello Ann! I love that you set a table so we could enjoy the water views. I think the shadows make for an interesting pattern play. The tablecloth calls my name because I love stripes and lemons! The plate stack is pretty with the two different salad plate designs. Your signature “paisley” napkins and lemon napkin rings are the perfect touches for your table. I did chuckle that you have to have someone with you when you shop to prevent you from buying another denim shirt.

  7. I always love your tables Ann, and what a treat to sit by the lake today! I deal with arbor shadows at the beach house tables, but I like the shadows, they add a little drama! You can't beat blue and yellow with lemons for summer, so fresh and pretty! I like how you mixed and matched the yellow salad plates, the rope glasses and cute water bottles~and the tablecloth is so happy! I know you will be enjoying a wonderful summer lake side~

  11. Oh Ann, I'm so happy you took us out on the deck to enjoy the fabulous lake views! I understand about a pergola and shadows, as 1/3 of my deck has one too. Truly, I wouldn't have even noticed the shadows if you hadn't mentioned them. I was far too distracted by your bright and cheery table. Clever of you to turn the placemats --- I've got to tuck that styling tip for a future setting. Absolutely adore those napkin rings, I thought the lemons were real! And, oh how perfect are those sea grass tumblers. I'd love a seat at your table, sipping a cool one while admiring the view. Happy summer!

  13. I knew I was going to like your tablescape when I read the title! I absolutely love the tablecloth with the bold blue stripes and lemons. Your view of the lake is stunning, and if I had that view I'd probably look for an excuse to eat alfresco all the time. Your table is so creative and pretty! My favorites are the napkin rings. They are so cute!

  15. Ann, sometimes bloggers just need to give up against the elements of nature and work with it! Even with all that you were working with, the pictures turned out great. The view is special. How blessed to live in such a beautiful area. And the yellow and blue used for the table is always a classic, and one of my favs. Well done!

  16. What a lovely location for a cute tablescape! The bold yellows and blues are perfect counterpoints to the intense blues of the lake and sky. The napkin rings are a delight -- what a great gift to receive from your daughter! As for the pergola "stripes", they're a wonderful reminder that you're enjoying the outdoors.

  17. Ann, eating outside by a beautiful lake seems so dreamy. The views alone would be so pleasant but you added a wonderful setting with your color combo of blue and yellow. No worries about the shadows ~ I hardly noticed them. The paisley napkins are a lovely compliment to the pretty dishes.

  20. Ohmygosh, Ann, I LOVE this! The pergola just adds to your tablecloth, creating a bit of your namesake - plaid! It's wonderful! Your plates, the napkin rings, the glasses - all so great, and the paisley definitely pops on the table. Lots os fun pattern play, and lemons are my favorite, not just in summer, but year round. You have a fabulous setting as you're situated on the lake (is that Erie?). Well done, perfect summertime vibes. Thanks for joining in the hop, and happy summer!

  21. Ann, this is the perfect summer tablescape. It is so bright and cheerful that I didn't notice any of the shadows. If anything it added to how cool one might be while sitting in the breeze on a warm sunny day at your lovely table for lunch and refreshments. The "chill" water bottles caught my attention and I immediately could picture an icy cold glass of water in hand at your stunning table enjoying your beautiful view. I love the combination of colors and patterns and from smaller size print to larger print in your tablecloth. It truly does make it a summer time attraction. I am sure your guests would find themselves wanting to stay there for hours. Have a great summer!

  22. Your lovely alfresco table reflects the blue skies and bright sun. I love a blue and yellow combo! Also love lemons! Your water view is fabulous. I agree that you live in a little slice of paradise. Your plate stack is pretty with either, but I like to mix things up, so using both appeals to me. Your centerpiece is a perfect mix of color and texture. Great job! It's fun hopping with you, Ann! Happy Summer!
